I want to touch briefly upon role of the funeral director but before I do that I just want to  just go over a few things you know it has been written that death is the crisis of life and how man handles death indicates a great deal about how we approach his life as there is a Jewish way of life  there is a which way of death here's the tricky part  when does a person learn about all of this do they learn about this sitting at the desk in front of a funeral director  who really is not trained so much in these air funeral director can either be an order taker or an Undertaker  but what is that funeral director undertaking the undertaking the sacred responsibility that we have to make sure that our Jewish Brethren have a proper Jewish burial hard to educate a family who has no idea no concept of these in yanam at the time of a how about a family that comes in just cremated there  parent two years before now they come in and they want to do the sing sing  for their father is that the time to start educating them it's a difficult question that's why everyone here can become ambassadors of the Jewish way of death little bit of knowledge we can change so much for the 20% of the care that would be given to God forbid my father became ill and need care  in washing his body bathing his body how careful anybody I would want watch him including myself how careful we would be in concept of the Jewish way of death we use a plane open casket no matter how wealthy one is we encourage one to use plain simple  The Equalizer we're born into this world equal we leave this world equally the only thing we can take with us have those mitts has that we do in this world interesting because  one of the first things that we do at Olivia and a funeral is we ask forgiveness we recognize that it's nearly impossible to live our lives without making mistakes we all make mistakes and if there's anything that we may have done to take away from the honor of the deceased we ask for forgiveness  and if there's anything set the deceased may have done to us  we Grant forgiveness  the very first thing and forgiveness the tremendous give that a shame has given to us if we utilize it properly it can really set us free but I'm going to take it just one step further we focus on and I'm doing everything for the deceased  we focus on their honor and their covet covet amazed  is that it  don't we cover Bread on Friday night when we make the Kiddush not to embarrass the bread  and the greater lesson we learn from that is  how careful we should be not to embarrass spell human beings  so we ask forgiveness from the deceased we focus all of our attention on the disease to make sure we're doing everything right for the deceased much more  should we be involved  and making sure that we're doing right by our fellow sometimes that's overlook I'm sure it's not in this group so it's just a matter of getting the word out  people to understand the beauty of tahara the beauty there are people here that know situations where the guests and everyone that come to the funeral they're out the gate long before the casket is even lowered into the ground one of the practices that we do and I encourage everyone to listen it's something worth listening to  three real good reasons why we stay for the berry and why we participate in the burial number one from a contempt contemporary psychological viewpoint we say is pain close it is to watch the casket being lowered into the ground and hearing it first thought of Earth hit the casket as painful as that is what is the opposite of the Nile  and it's the beginning of a healthy bereavement process and that falls right in line with Tara thought II  6 million of our loved ones never had the opportunity to have a are Jewish burial we have a privilege and opportunity to make sure that our loved ones have a proper burial  and number three sometimes resonates in the hearts and minds of those who are not so connected know what more sits on the low chair when you enter a Shiva house  people in different moods I'm sure different homes have different sort of styles of a Shiva house stop when there's eight when there's an untimely tragic death that is a very different field than we going to ship a house of somebody who has lived a full rich life in his diet Diamond old age even though of course no matter when a person dies it's still shocking to the family is it home different emotional feel when you're going to somebody's live the full life as opposed to somebody's life is cut short whatever the case maybe though when you go to a Shiva house we should all notice for when we go and visit and comfort the mourner one of the mix of Me Home album of comforting the mourners what we are supposed to do is wait for the person to speak before we address them I've been in Shiva homes for that have been like you know just so painfully tragic loss of a child  that is a whole different field then that Shiva house when you meet when I'm going to comfort a friend who's lost a grandparent who live to an old age and been successful life at home when I went to the still seared in my memory of a friend of mine who lost a child  walking into the house with the mother and father sobbing not saying a word to me and I sat down next to them  and I sat down there for an hour can I house with my head down looking at them as they sat there sobbing it was in his diaper it like it was just fine where's ago  I didn't say anything I sat there for about an hour and a half sitting next to them looking at them there was an odd they didn't say to me they just cried for an hour and a half I got up at the end of that Shiva set him up with me not going to defend the tough shower daily steel Misha line walked out of the shithouse what episode without saying a word for an hour and a half and I felt awful realizing months later when the how to speak into my friends after this awful tragic loss of a child that just the very Act of being there in the home showing your support is itself a come for the for the person the reason why we don't speak in a Shiva house to the more until the more speaks to us because we take our cue from them you know how it is that we're going to be able to comfort them so when the person is not responding even when they when the parents of the of the of the child who passed away we're sitting there crying inconsolably they didn't want me to talk to them they didn't want me to try to offer any kind of hollow words that would ring phony to them they were in a position in our lives but they needed to absorb the tragedy and the gravity of of the of of the loss without any words spoken or just the of people being there with them in that sense mimics of course the famous words of our own when he lost his son by you don't have no no Messiah sometimes that's what they need but sometimes you to show the house you sit down the person's morning you sit down in front of them and they open up and they start talking intraday they say words to You and which point you start talking about the deceased asking them where was the person born tell me about their life and that's sometimes is Prince much more to the person who is morning then just sitting there silently and so I think it's important to realize that when we all go pay Shiva Claus that's important thing to realize that we Stark you from the person sitting shiva we don't speak until spoken to so that we know what will bring the greatest Comfort many people said that there's something that's so psychologically astute so psychologically brilliant about the Jewish morning practice of having somebody who sitting shiva staying in their home in which people from all around their lives in the world will come visit them and share with them and be supportive of them and then gradual to work the way back into the real world into their lives through slow him and then you'd bet hodosh and then every year having the yard site which they commemorate the person this is a process that I think is very to me since very psychologically wise and one that brings on great comfort to the to the in the in the in her interview I just reread it is that the other members of the team that had said to her are you sure you want to do this until the very submitted and she really resented they're doing that cuz she's already made this very firm decision that this is what she had and you can see the power from the story that Evette told you you can see the power of tahara less kind of got some they're going to before a person expires or they're going to think there's a chance of Reviving that person but going into Shabbos it's always good if there's a situation where it looks like it could happen on Shabbos to notify a non-jewish person ahead of time they should call the police on Shabbos no no no is willing to sign okay depends on a whole set of circumstances how old is the person who was the person read it at all for any prior condition brought you know we're constantly fighting the men not fighting working with the men examiner's offices to prevent autopsies and most of the time we're successful but there are certain things that are just black and white that you cannot prevent most homicides suicides are not from you can't prevent an autopsy next week of those lives that we perhaps the last moment the person may have regretted it may not have wanted to commit suicide the other is that we do treat somebody who commits suicide as a it says is result of of Mental Illness but which we consider that you know enough to be considered to be someone who's almost like I knew somebody who is it was not willfully done it was something was in ill but they'd suffered through similar to on the way we'd assume somebody dies of a natural illness like like I say cancer or something like that we to view mental illness that leads to to suicide and in that same sort of that
