We are currently recruiting for the position of High School History Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year.

Job Overview

KYHS is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic History teacher who can bring passion, creativity, and understanding to the History classroom. This position entails teaching five History classes across at least three of the following subject areas: World History, European History, United States History, and related electives courses.

The successful candidate is not only knowledgeable across a range of historical subject areas, but is also committed to inspiring their students with a love of history, fostering critical thinking, and creating a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student growth and academic success. The candidate should share our program’s emphasis on critical thought, analytical writing, source analysis in context, the diversity of the human experience, and empathy. They should also demonstrate alignment with our program’s pedagogical philosophy, which is built around helping students to cultivate a comprehensive understanding of the past and its implications for the present, developing students’ analytical independence, and fostering students’ compassion.

Duties

Teach five History classes for a total of 20 periods a week across our World History, European History, United States History, and/or electives curricula. Develop and deliver engaging lessons that are consistent with course content and objectives, and give assessments that challenge students to think critically and substantively about the past.

Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation, respect, and collaboration. Tailor teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and individual student needs.

Demonstrate academic excellence in subject areas and demonstrate a high standard of professional and methodological excellence in keeping with the best and current practices of the historical discipline.

Instill a sense of historical curiosity by guiding students through sophisticated analysis and interpretation of the past and its implications for the present.

Develop students’ ability to form, evidence, and convey historical arguments and interpretations in writing, and provide substantive feedback to guide individual student growth.

Maintain open and proactive communication with parents and colleagues to discuss student progress, address concerns, and collaborate on student success.

Stay current with educational trends, participate in professional development opportunities, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement. Serve as a role model of personal empathy while demonstrating a strong commitment to addressing inequalities in the practice and teaching of History. Qualifications

Candidates should have a master’s degree in History or Education; possess substantial experience in designing and delivering History curricula; and should have a comprehensive knowledge of relevant historical subject areas, historical thinking and working methodologies, and relevant pedagogy. Preference will be given to individuals with strong organizational and communication skills as well as a demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
